Where “true usb peripheral” means USB with a standard USB connector, not the XBox 1′s controller connector that is USB on the inside and sharp spiky bits on the outside. Ostensibly it’s to enable taking the controller back and forth between your XBox 360 and your PC.

To me, this means 2 things:

1. There is a good chance that the controller could be made to work with Macs and Linux machines. How sweet would it be to hook up your Mac Mini to your home theater and control iTunes and your other apps with your XBox 360 controller.

2. Given the wacky variety of USB peripherals, hopefully it should be easier to homebrew other interesting peripherals and items to go into the 360: surfboards, exercise bikes etc.
