Clive Thompson has done a couple posts on the issues with High Definition content making Hollywood (and Porn) stars less attractive by virtue of accurately displaying what they look like.
He concludes that many of the Hollywood A-Listers will be shut out in a similar manner to the changing of the guard with the moves from silent films to talkies, black and white to color, etc.
However, these aren’t people we’re talking about so much as brands (if you doubt this, checkout Audrey Hepburn shilling for Gap). The faces on the cover of People aren’t going to be laid off next month as HD reaches a tipping point in the marketplace. What will happen is that many established stars may start putting lines in their contracts stipulating additional computer enhancements of their visages.
But yeah, daily news show hosts and low budget filmmakers are probably going to have to start strategically cultivating a grittier, higher pore content style of news and entertainment.
