I’m more or less endlessly fascinated by the concept of Creative Commons licenses. They are the initial real world examples of law as computer code (ala Charles Stross’s Accellerando). As off the shelf licenses you can stamp onto your creations to allow for certain types of use down the road, so say you want to let photos of your vacation be used by any random kid that finds it on your blog and would like to photoshop themselves on a dirt bike into it, but not let people sell your photo as a postcard without clearing it with you first. You would set an “Attribution Non-commercial” license on your pictures.
There are many to choose from, but they’re all available in formats perfect for the 3 literate species that inhabit earth:
- Humans
- Lawyers
- Computers

WHAT TO DO NOW?
