I came across this fascinating plugin for WordPress today: GigPress.
It’s a full add-on to a standard Wordpress (open source blog software, which also happens to be what I’m running here) installation, targeted specifically to bands doing live music tours.
Some cool features:
- Grouping of shows into nameable tours
- Auto-linking to Google Maps for venues with a street address
- Ability to list both upcoming shows and past shows, chronologically rolled-over as tour dates pass
While services like MySpace have a bunch of built-in tools for hosting and sharing music, they don’t really focus on Live music and this looks like it just nails the features that touring bands would need.
I think I’m going to start collecting other hyper specific blogging tools.
